Later, we will head to Spain’s luxurious cities to experience the rich culture, and take a small detour to retreat for a couple of days in breath-taking Andorra, a perfect place for nature lovers. Using public transport allows you to connect with locals and gives you a feel for what it is like to live in these countries, allowing you to take home unique memories and experiences. Day 1 and Day 2: Porto, Portugal
Pack your bags and take the flight to your first destination, the historic city of Porto. As you arrive in Porto, don’t forget to look out of the flight window and enjoy the stunning view. The international airport of Porto, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, is located 11 km from the city centre. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the city centre by cab. Alternatively, you can take a tram or a bus, which takes anywhere between 40 minutes to an hour to get to your hotel or Airbnb.
Once in Porto city centre, you’ll find that most places are easy to explore on foot, but for spots a little farther out, the city’s trams and buses offer convenient options. Now, let’s jump into the list of places you have to see and things you’ll love doing while you’re in Porto, Portugal!

Tiled Houses
Most of the houses in Portugal feature beautiful tiled exteriors in various colours and styles. Enjoy the charm and character these tiles bring to the city!
Cais de Riberia
Take a stroll along the Douro River at the Ribeira. From there, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of the Dom Luis I Bridge. This iconic bridge features two levels: the lower level, located near the Ribeira, lets you cross on foot and explore both sides of the river, while also accommodating road traffic. Along the river, you’ll find plenty of cafes and restaurants for a quick bite or a leisurely meal. Plus, there are some charming local craft stalls where you can pick up unique souvenirs!
Palácio da Bolsa
Just a few steps from the Ribeira, you can walk up to book tickets for a guided tour at the Palacio da Bolsa, where tours are available in various languages. If you do not find an immediate time slot, do not worry. Just book the next available one and take some time to explore the nearby Church of St. Francis before your tour begins. The guides are very knowledgeable and provide fascinating insights into the history of the place. The highlight of the tour is the stunning Arab Hall, which is inspired by the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.

Funicular dos Guindais
This is a fantastic way to reach the top of the Dom Luis I Bridge while enjoying a short ride on the funicular. It only takes about two minutes to reach the top!

Dom Luis I Bridge
Take a stroll across the top of the bridge for stunning views of the city. You’ll also see trams passing by on the upper level, making for a unique and memorable experience.
Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar (Monastery)
This monastery is clearly visible from the top of the Dom Luis I Bridge. After a short walk from the bridge, you’ll find a gently sloped footpath that leads uphill to the monastery, so there’s no need to climb any stairs. The views of the city and the bridge from the monastery are simply breath-taking.

Clérigos Tower
Make sure to be here when the clock strikes, as the chimes resonate for over a minute! If you’re up for burning some calories, climb the 230 steps to reach the highest point in Porto and take in the stunning views of the city.

Day 3: Travel from Porto to Lisbon with a stop over at Aveiro, Portugal

Aveiro Railway Station
The old Aveiro station is adorned with stunning blue Portuguese tiles, creating a striking contrast against the white walls. You’ll find these beautiful tiles on both the main façade and the platform. The platform is easily accessible from the new station, located right next to the old one. Both stations are just a short walk from the bus stop and are definitely worth a visit.
Aveiro’s City Centre
The city centre is only a 20-minute walk from the railway station, with interesting buildings and pathways to enjoy along the way. Wandering through Aveiro’s city centre is a delightful experience. You can stroll along charming canals, with colourful buildings on one side and vibrant boats on the other.
Aveiro’s Canal Boat Ride
The traditional Moliceiro boats offer a fun way to experience Aveiro in just 45 minutes. The guides share fascinating details about the history of Aveiro as you glide through four different canals. Along the way, you’ll encounter many beautiful and interesting bridges, some adorned with colourful ribbons and others showcasing unique architecture.
Head back to the Aveiro bus stand to catch a FlixBus, which takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes to reach Lisbon. Alternatively, you can take a train from the railway station, which will get you there in around 2 hours and 20 minutes. The bus fare ranges from €5 to €10, while the train ticket costs approximately €12 to €25.
Day 4 and Day 6: Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a vibrant and bustling city where history meets modernity. In the old town, you’ll find charming houses adorned with traditional Portuguese tiles, while the newer areas are filled with modern apartment towers. As a top tourist destination, it’s common to encounter queues at many attractions, which can be a bit frustrating. Fortunately, the Lisbon Card is a great option as it grants you access to many monuments, museums, and public transport, making your visit more convenient. The card is available for 24, 48, and 72 hours, costing around €23, €37, and €46, respectively .
In this itinerary, you’ll have the opportunity to explore Lisbon on both day 4 and day 6, with an exciting day trip to Sintra planned for day 5. Here are the top places to see and the essential experiences to enjoy during your stay in Lisbon:

Torre de Belem
Torre de Belém is a fascinating 16th-century fortress that once guarded Lisbon’s harbour. Now a UNESCO site, it’s definitely worth checking out for its unique architecture and stunning views along the Tagus River, where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. Be prepared for big queues since this old structure attracts many visitors, with waiting times sometimes reaching up to two hours. If you’re not keen on going inside, you can still enjoy beautiful views from the outside and take a lovely stroll in the surrounding area.

Just a few steps from Torre de Belém, the Monument to the Discoveries is a fantastic tribute to Portugal’s Age of Exploration. You’ll spot impressive figures like Vasco da Gama, Henry the Navigator, Ferdinand Magellan, and Afonso de Albuquerque. You can head to the top of the monument for panoramic views of the Tagus River and the surrounding area. Just keep in mind that this isn’t included with the Lisbon Card, and you may encounter big queues to get up there.

Ride Tram 28
Riding Tram 28 is a must when you’re in Lisbon! Hop on and enjoy the ride as you pass by narrow streets, steep hills, and beautiful landmarks! Be sure to stop at Miradouro da Graça to catch a stunning sunset over the city. Eat A Pastel de Nata
You absolutely can’t leave Lisbon without treating yourself to a pastel de nata! Writing about these delicious custard tarts with their flaky crust and creamy filling is making me crave them all over again! Don’t miss the chance to indulge in this sweet treat; it’s simply irresistible!
Exploring Lisbon’s Best Neighbourhoods: Baixa, Alfama, and Belém
Lisbon boasts a variety of vibrant neighbourhoods, each with its own unique charm. Baixa is a great place to start; it’s the city’s downtown area, perfect for strolling through grand squares, browsing shops, or riding the famous Santa Justa Elevator. For a journey back in time, head to Alfama, the oldest part of Lisbon, where you can wander winding streets and enjoy stunning views from São Jorge Castle.
Don’t miss Belém, a must-visit for its historic landmarks like the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery. While you’re there, be sure to try the famous Pastéis de Belém, a delicious twist on the classic Pastel de Nata. Each neighbourhood offers its own distinct vibe, turning the exploration of Lisbon into an epic experience.
Chariot Museum
The Chariot Museum, or Museu dos Coches, is a fantastic spot in Lisbon! It features an incredible collection of historical carriages and chariots that showcase the evolution of transportation in Portugal. As you stroll through the museum, you’ll be amazed by the stunning designs and craftsmanship of these royal and ceremonial vehicles. Plus, it’s included in the Lisbon Card, so you can enjoy this unique museum without any extra cost!
Day 5: Day trip to Sintra from Lisbon
Sintra is known for its stunning palaces and lush gardens that seem straight out of a fairy tale. You can easily reach this enchanting town with a quick 40-minute train ride from Lisbon’s Rossio Station, with departures every two hours. Once there, the 434 Tourist Bus will help you hop between all the major sights. Just a heads-up: carry cash, as not all buses accept cards! Here are some of the must-visit places in Sintra:

National Palace of Pena
Pena Palace is a breath-taking example of Romantic architecture, famous for its vibrant colours and whimsical design. Nestled atop a hill, it offers stunning views of Sintra and the surrounding landscapes—definitely a must-visit!
To get there, it’s about a 30-40 minute bus ride from the station to the palace entrance, with buses starting around 9:15 am. If you prefer, you can also take a cab, as both options cover a 10 km distance from the station. For those who enjoy a bit of adventure, you can hike up the shorter 1.5 km path, which takes about 35 minutes. Once you arrive at the entrance, it’ll take another 20-30 minutes to stroll up to the palace itself.
Since entry is timed, it’s a good idea to arrive 30 minutes early to ensure you don’t miss your slot. For a quieter experience, consider booking the 9:30 am entry. If you’d rather save your legs, there’s also a shuttle for just €3 that takes you right to the palace.
And don’t forget to explore Parque de Pena, an extensive park surrounding Pena Palace filled with a wide array of exotic plants and flowers! Attractions like the Chalet of the Countess of Edla and Vale dos Lagos e Pateira are definitely worth checking out, and they’re all part of Parque de Pena.

Day 6: Travel from Lisbon to Lagos in the Evening
On Day 6, you can take some time to explore any attractions or neighbourhoods you missed on Day 4 in Lisbon. Then, in the evening, you’ll head to Lagos.
You have a couple of travel options:
Bus: You can catch the bus to Lagos from Oriente Station. It’s a super convenient option, taking around 3 hours and 40 minutes, and tickets are priced at approximately €11.
Train: Alternatively, you can opt for a train journey. You’ll need to change at Tunes, and the total travel time is about 3 hours and 45 minutes, costing around €40.
Day 7: Lagos, Portugal
Lagos is located in the southern part of Portugal in the Algarve region, famous for its stunning coastline, golden beaches, and impressive cliffs. We were really looking forward to exploring the famous Benagil Caves, but sadly, due to bad weather, no boats were allowed out. Fingers crossed that you’ll have better luck with the weather! Even if the caves aren’t an option, don’t worry. You can still have an amazing time in Lagos. Let me share two fun ways to spend a day in this beautiful town!

Option 1 :
Benagil Caves :
The Benagil Cave is such a cool spot! It’s this dome-like sea cave with a unique circular opening in the roof. When the sunlight pours in, it lights up the interior and gives it this mysterious, magical feel. You can explore this natural wonder by kayaking or hopping on a guided boat tour, which gets you up close to this rare geological gem. Trust me, it’s one of those places you just have to see on the Algarve coast!
Ponta da Piedade by boat:
Just a quick hop from Lagos, Ponta da Piedade is a sight to behold! The views of the dramatic cliffs and unique rock formations are absolutely unforgettable. To really appreciate the beauty, jump on a guided boat ride that takes you through hidden caves and sparkling clear waters. It’s the perfect way to experience the stunning Algarve coastline up close!
Explore Lagos
Lagos is such a charming little town! You can easily stroll through its cobblestone streets, popping into quirky shops and cafes along the way. Don’t forget to take a break on the gorgeous beach; it’s the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the sun. Whether you’re hunting for local treasures or just enjoying the laid back vibe, Lagos has something for everyone.
Option 2:
If the weather does not cooperate you can still enjoy Ponta da Piedade. Just grab a cab from the city centre to reach this stunning spot. Once you arrive, take some time to wander along the boardwalks and admire the beautiful cliffs. You can also unwind at Praia da Batata, a lovely beach perfect for soaking up the sun or taking a dip. Don’t forget to explore the town centre too; there is so much to see and do.
Day 8: Travel to Seville from Lagos and explore Faro on the way
Hop on a train from Lagos to Faro, which takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes and costs around €10. You’ll be treated to beautiful views of orange orchards along the way. Once you arrive in Faro, take some time to explore the town centre and check out Porto Nova. You can wander around on your own or join a free guided tour if you prefer. As you stroll, you might catch the sweet scent of oranges in the air. Just remember not to pick any, as the word is that the oranges taste bitter.
After exploring Faro, take a FlixBus to Seville, which takes around 2 hours and 35 minutes and costs approximately €20. There are other bus companies that run services as well, but they usually take longer.
Day 9 and Day 10: Seville, Spain
Rich, luxurious, and vibrant—that’s exactly the vibe that hits you as soon as you step into Seville. It feels like being transported back in time to a golden era, surrounded by grandeur at every corner. Plan to stay in the city centre to make the most of your time and soak in the lively atmosphere. Also, make sure to book your tickets to the main attractions 2-3 months in advance so you don’t miss out on visiting these popular sites. Otherwise, you could end up paying sky-high prices from resellers when the official tickets are sold out. Here are the best places to visit in Seville:

Alcazar Of Seville
The Alcázar of Seville truly sweeps you away. With its intricate tile work, graceful arches, and lush gardens, it feels like a dream come to life. As you wander through the palace, the weight of history surrounds you—each room tells its own story, wrapped in a captivating charm that’s hard to articulate. We especially loved the Courtyard of the Maidens, where the intricate designs and tranquil atmosphere create a moment of pure magic. It’s an absolute must-visit when you’re in Seville!

Seville Cathedral
Seville Cathedral is one of those places you just can’t miss! It’s one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world, and the architecture is absolutely stunning, with a fascinating history to match. Inside the cathedral, you’ll find beautiful chapels and art, including the tomb of Christopher Columbus. Don’t forget to check out the Retablo Mayor while you’re inside. This incredible golden altarpiece beautifully showcases the life of Jesus with intricate carvings that are sure to leave you in awe.
Giralda tower
As you head up the Giralda bell tower, you might be surprised to discover it’s not your typical staircase. Instead, you’ll find around 34 sloped platforms that make the climb a bit easier, but keep in mind it can still be quite a trek, which might feel strenuous for some visitors. Feel free to pause along the way and take in the views from the openings! Once you reach the top, you’ll be mesmerized by the giant bells and the breath-taking panorama of the city. It’s truly an unforgettable experience that you won’t want to miss!

We absolutely adore Plaza de España! It’s truly majestic and feels like stepping into another world. The intricate tile work and stunning architecture create a feast for the eyes. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, relaxing by the canal, or even renting a rowboat to soak in the picturesque views. The charming bridges and fountains add a romantic touch, making it an ideal backdrop for memorable photos. As you wander, you might catch the lively sounds of street performers, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. On our visit, we saw a Flamenco performance that beautifully captured the spirit of Andalusia.

Day 11: A Day of Travel with a Short Time to Explore Granada
This will be a long day filled with travel and a bit of exploration in Granada. You can catch the first train from Seville to Granada at 7:42 am, which takes about 2.5 hours and costs around €45. If you prefer to travel by bus, the services start at 8 am and the journey takes around 3 hours, with tickets priced at about €30. Either way, you’re in for a scenic ride to explore the beautiful city of Granada!

Granada
Granada is such a captivating city, perfectly blending rich history with stunning architecture, especially known for the iconic Alhambra palace. Once you arrive, getting to Alhambra is super easy! Just hop on a bus from the train station for about a 30-minute ride. You can catch buses 21, 33, or 4 heading towards Gran via 5 – Cathedral. After that, it’s just a quick 3-minute walk to Plaza Isabel la Católica, where you’ll change to either the C30 or C32 bus straight to Alhambra. The whole journey is very accessible, so you can dive right into exploring this incredible site! And along the way, you’ll catch glimpses of the beauty of this amazing city.
Alhambra
Alhambra is truly a breath-taking palace that showcases the stunning beauty of Moorish architecture and lush gardens, making it a must-visit in Granada. You’ll want to spend about 3 to 4 hours here, taking your time to soak in all the incredible details. One of the highlights is the Nasrid Palaces, famous for their exquisite Islamic design and intricate artistry, offering a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the past. Just a little tip: if you’re planning to visit, be sure to grab your tickets at least two months in advance to avoid exorbitantly high prices from resellers!
Exploring Granada
If you’re planning a last-minute trip and can’t get tickets to the Alhambra, don’t worry—you can still have a fantastic time exploring Granada! Hike up to Mirador de San Nicolás, where you’ll be treated to stunning views of the Alhambra set against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada. The square is usually buzzing with a lively crowd, which really enhances the experience.
There are also plenty of nearby cafes where you can grab a drink and soak in the astounding views. Afterwards, take a leisurely walk downhill to the city centre, where you can explore the Granada Cathedral. Along the way, you’ll encounter amazing winding paths and beautiful buildings that add to the charm of your adventure.
Flight from Granada to Barcelona
Take a cab from Alhambra to Granada Airport, which should take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive, catch your flight to Barcelona, scheduled for around 6 PM. The flight takes about an hour and a half. Be sure to enjoy the majestic peaks of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada as you take off from Granada!
Bus from Barcelona to Andorra la Vella

Andorra-la-Vella
Andorra la Vella, the capital of Andorra, is such a charming place! Nestled in the mountains, it perfectly blends modern flair with traditional charm. You can wander through the old town’s narrow streets, check out the historic Andorra la Vella Cathedral, and even grab a coffee at one of the cosy cafés. And let’s not forget about the shopping! The duty-free stores offer some great deals. It’s a vibrant city that makes for a fantastic starting point to explore the rest of this beautiful country!
El Pas de la Casa
Hop on the L4 bus from the Andorra la Vella bus station to El Pas de la Casa, and don’t forget to grab a return ticket! This ride takes you through some charming small towns in Andorra, and you’ll be treated to stunning views along the way. El Pas de la Casa is nestled right by the French border and is known for its beautiful snowy mountains and ski resorts. Once you arrive, take in the striking white landscape, but be careful while walking on the snow, as it can be slippery! Spend some time exploring the town and enjoying a cosy lunch before making your way back to Andorra la Vella.
Ordino
Take the L6 bus from Andorra la Vella bus station to Ordino. This northern parish is home to the picturesque village of Ordino, known for its stunning mountain scenery and charming traditional architecture. Enjoy a delightful escape as you stroll through its quaint streets and explore historical sites. After soaking in the beauty of this small town, you can head back to Andorra la Vella.
Day 13: Head back to Barcelona
Around 3 PM, it’s time to start your journey back from Andorra la Vella to Barcelona by bus. You can get off at the city centre, and the ride will take about 3 hours and 45 minutes. This journey offers stunning scenic views, so sit back, relax, and soak in the incredible landscapes along the way!
Barcelona is a vibrant, sprawling city, and you’ll be relying on the metro or bus quite a bit to explore all its highlights. To make your travels smoother, consider purchasing the Barcelona Card, which offers a 48-hour pass. You can easily get this card at the metro station. Once you have your card, head over to your hotel or Airbnb.
Day 14 and Day 15 : Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is one of those cities that truly draws you in with its charm and energy. It’s a place where Gaudí’s whimsical creations surround you, from the soaring towers of the Sagrada Familia to the colorful mosaics in Park Güell.
